What is the Alfa sewing machine used in Sewing Masters?

Alpha 2190 sewing machine

It is one of the machines that can be seen the most in the program Sewing Masters. Perhaps because it is one of the most complete models, with 190 designs and an automatic winder.

Also in it we find 7 types of automatic buttonholes and an LCD screen where we can see all the options quickly and easily. But without forgetting that it is a perfect machine for thicker fabrics.

Alpha 8707 overlocker

In this case, there are also overlockers but not just any, but from the hand of Alpha. These types of machines introduce great novelties, since they can also sew in double fabrics and thanks to the blades they have, they can also cut the excess fabric of our seam. Thus preventing the garments from fraying, so the finish is much more professional.

In addition, among the advantages of these benefits we are left with the fact that we will save time in each job. You can place four spools of your favorite threads and it also has a lever for better threading.

Overlocker 8703

It is another of the Alpha models that we can also see in the television program. In this case we are facing another of the more professional models. Which tells us that the finishes will also be much more precise. You will be able to easily regulate the tensions and the threading will also be easier than expected.

Without forgetting that it has adjustment controls for both the width and the hem and LED light.

Alfa sewing machine without pedal

Sometimes we find a more than basic accessory. If you want to control everything but leave your hands free, then the pedal will be your best choice. Of course, in other cases, the sewing machine doesn't need it and neither do you. More than anything because thanks to the LED screens that we have already mentioned, we can regulate everything from there.

It is true that for it to be a personal choice, there are many models that do have said pedal. But really the operation of the machine can be with or without it. As you can see, you have the option of the screen but other models will also have buttons and wheels. All this very simple to use even for those who start in this art.

Thread sewing machine Alfa

Before threading an alpha sewing machine You have to follow a series of preparations that you can see in the following video:

Once we have made the preparations, we can proceed to thread. Here is another video to make the process much more illustrative and practical:

It is always one of those most difficult moments. Or that's what we think, because nowadays it won't be so much anymore. Threading the Alfa sewing machine It can almost be child's play. Some models, such as Alfa Next 30 or 40, have a kind of arrow-shaped drawings at the top. In this way, we will know the steps to follow.

  • We place the yarn package at the top and drag it to the left. We will see a kind of hook through which we will pass it.
  • We take it straight down. We will pass it behind the color zone, right where the number 2 and a new up arrow appears.
  • The thread will go back up until it reaches number 3. You will pass it through its hook and back down to the next number.
  • Act quickly. place the thread at the height of the needle in order to finish threading.

Alfa sewing machine cover Alfa sewing machine cover

When you go on a trip or need to take it from one place to another, then you will also need the Alfa sewing machine cover. Because if you don't have it, you can also buy it on their website, for a price of around 40 euros. It will protect your machine from both dirt and bumps.

It has an interior reinforcement, as well as an ergonomic handle. You won't have space problems because it also has a built-in pocket to store accessories main. You can find them in the official store or in numerous physical stores and online. This is because they usually work with a type of basic accessories that are easy to find. Any store that has Alfa machines will also have their spare parts, but if you want, you can buy them online in the link that we just left you.

Alpha sewing machine manual

If we already know how to handle Alfa sewing machines, perhaps we will put aside the instruction manuals. We recommend that you take a look at them, because there are always some details that vary. In this way, you will make the most of the qualities of your new machine. If you are just starting out with them, then it is good to always have the original instructions at hand.

If you have an Alfa sewing machine, here you can access your instruction manuals.

History of Alfa sewing machines

Alfa sewing machine without pedal

Who has not had at home or has known someone who had any of the alpha machines? Well, these have a long history and for that, we must go back to 1920. In addition to being important this year, because it is its birth, Éibar is no less so. A town in the Basque Country that saw the birth of the firm that would continue to be so present so long after.

At first, the company known as Alpha starts working on firearmsAt that time we are talking about 1892. This was their main production, but it seems that they did not leave enough money to be able to move forward. In addition to the fact that several crises and strikes came together that made the business rethink. Times were changing and they decided to bet on sewing machines. A potential idea that little by little took its course and began to bear fruit. The world of sewing was booming, so help was always welcome.

From the year 1922 the patents already appear and in them the mark as Alfa. But it is true that it was not until 1925 when the first sewing machine ideas really appeared. Certainly an idea It was the first in Spain and that with it, revolutionized the sector. It was in 1927 when around 175 units of this product were produced per year. A year later, the process was accelerated considerably more because a large order was placed with them, in order to introduce sewing machines in schools.

Due to the Spanish Civil War It also had a big break in its production, until it was rescued in the 40s. With the passage of time, it returned to position itself in the 50s as the great reference in terms of production, despite the fact that other important names were also already dealing with the land. The more it grew, it also developed other additional actions in the form of social services for all its workers. A long history that was once again affected by a major crisis that arose at the end of the 80s. But the 90s arrived and with private capital, they could take up the company again.

  1. Good morning, I have an Alfa Model 482 sewing machine, the zigzag pinion has been damaged and I need to replace it. Can you tell me where I should go to buy it?
And if, failing that, the 482 model is already outdated, which pinion of the Alfa machines could replace it?

    Thanks in advance

  2. Hello, good afternoon,

My mother has an old Alfa World machine that already needs to be replaced with another.

Of all the machines that you recommend on your page, which would be the most similar in terms of handling? My mother is 80 years old and if the machine is not the same or very similar, surely she will not be able to use it.

Thanks in advance for the help

    • Hi Sara,

The Alfa World machine is very old, so you will find quite a difference (for the better) with any of the current models, even the most basic ones. For its value for money, perhaps the most complete is the Style 40.

It has many types of stitches, 4-step automatic buttonhole and 70W of power. You sure love it.

If you have any other questions tell me.

          • Hi Isabel,

An equivalent could be the Alfa Style 40, it has some more stitch design but the power is similar. Its price is quite cheap, so it is a great purchase if you do not need anything else.

            Regards!

    • Hello Eva,

You won't have a problem with either of the two models because they both have a 70W motor.

If your only requirement is that it can sew on thick fabrics, then I would go for the cheaper of the two, which in this case is the Style 40.

        • Hello Eva,

The Next 45 has more stitch types (25 vs. 10 for the Style 20).

On the other hand, the variable length of the Style 20 goes from 0 to 4,5mm while in the Next 45 it goes from 0 to 4mm.

          Otherwise they are practically identical.

          Regards!

          • Hello Pilar,

The truth is that time has passed for everyone, including your Alpha machine 🙂

Today's models can give you the feeling that they are worse because they have more plastic and, a priori, they seem less robust.

However, when it comes to sewing, you will notice a significant leap in quality. Today's machines sew better, easier, they offer many stitch designs that you can customize and they come in all prices so you can choose the one you like best.

If you have resumed sewing, do not hesitate to buy a current model because you will enjoy it much more.

            Regards!

    • Hi Chus,

It is difficult to recommend one of the two models since at the level of characteristics they are practically identical, there is no notable difference in power, number of stitches, handling or included accessories. Everything is the same in both.

Therefore, in these cases we always recommend the cheapest one, which in this case is the Style Up 40.

If you have any other questions, tell us.

    • Hi Mary,

We have received your message asking about the Alfa Zart 01 sewing machine.

It is a great model, mid-high range, so it covers the needs of the most frequent domestic and professional uses. If you tell us what your expectations are, we can help you a little more.

Of course, take advantage of the offer because as you have seen, it is with a very succulent discount and its price is usually much higher.

      Regards!

      • Hello Nacho,
Thank you very much for your quick response. Let me explain better, it's not that my expectations are high, it's that it makes me suspicious that the price is suddenly reduced by half... I wanted to hear your opinion about it and if this model was comparatively worth it at this price or some other model equivalent price. I was looking at other models, but not knowing them I decided on this one for the price. I already told you that it seems like a very good offer, but for "good" it has made me distrust... thank you very much!

        • Hi Mary,

Keep in mind that Amazon varies prices a lot and it's not uncommon to find things 40 or 50% off the usual store price.

Do not be suspicious that there is no problem, in addition the machine is sold directly by Amazon so you will not have any problem for a possible return if you are not convinced, guarantee, etc.

At the level of characteristics, it seems to us that it will perfectly meet your needs since it is a sewing machine that is closer to the professional sphere than to the domestic one. It is a great opportunity without a doubt.

          Regards!

  7. I wanted to buy an alfa style 30 or up 30 and they told me in an appliance store that they can't ask me for it because this is the old model of the current alfa next 830…is that true? If so, do they have the same features?

    Reply
    • Hi Esmé,

My name is Nacho and I am writing to you because of the comment you have left us on the sewing machines website.

Regarding your doubt, I inform you that both the Alfa Style UP 30 and the Style 30 are available. Both are still for sale.

As for the Alfa Next 830, it does not seem that it will be the successor of the previous models, at least that is what the manufacturer's website indicates. At the level of characteristics they are not the same either. For example, the Style UP 30 has 23 stitches, the Style 30 has 19 stitches, and the Next 830 has 21 stitches.

At the power level, the three models have 70W.

But as we tell you, both the Style UP 30 and the Style 30 are still being sold and there are no signs to the contrary. There may be stock breakage that is causing delays and as an alternative they offer the Next 830 but we do not have that information.

      Regards!

I am hesitant to buy it online and then the place to take it is very far away...I am from Alzira (Valencia)

    • Hi Esmé,

If you buy it from Amazon directly (not from third parties that sell on Amazon) you will not have any problem. It is one of the websites with the best customer service and they will take care of any problem, sometimes they even refund the purchase money if the machine breaks after a year and cannot be repaired, something that you will not get anywhere else .

You can also call the manufacturer to take over the machine. This is what is done in any establishment and showing the purchase invoice is enough for them to repair it.

I hope that with this you have more confidence to make the purchase online.

I am considering buying a sewing machine, but I have never sewn. It would be for home use and more for crafts, costumes than for everyday use. I am hesitating between the alpha compact 100 and the alpha practick 9. Thank you very much

    • Hi Sara,

I am Nacho and I am writing to you in relation to your doubt about the sewing machines that you have told us about.

If you have never sewn before, both are good machines to start with. Of course, if you think that little by little you are going to do more complex things, the Practik 9 will last much longer since it is somewhat more powerful and also has many more possibilities at the stitch level.

The Compakt 100 is easier to handle as it is simpler. If you are starting and have never touched a sewing machine, it may be a more recommended option to start and see if you like the world of sewing. Of course, with either of the two you will be right if you are starting.

    • Hello Marimar,

This particular model is one of the most versatile of Alfa since you can use it whether you are learning or have experience in the world of sewing. It has 70W of power (similar to more expensive machines), 34 stitch designs, 6 feed rows and a 4-step buttonhole.

As for the year of manufacture, the most accurate information we have found is that it is from the year 2017, so there is no forecast of any model that will replace it in the short term.

Without a doubt, one of the most complete models that is also now on sale.

In addition, being from the same brand you will be familiar with its use from day one. I just looked and it's right on sale.

        • Hello again Miriam,

If you move in those budgets, the Alfa Smart + is the best option, it is also on sale and for €40 difference it is worth it since it brings quite a few more stitches (100 compared to 70) among other small improvements.

If you don't want to spend so much, you also have the Alfa Compakt E500 Plus electronic sewing machine, it costs almost half but in terms of performance it is much lower.

          • Hi Miriam,

If you buy the Smart Plus from the link that I have sent you, you will not have any problem (and you save a lot of money). It is a machine that Amazon sells and they take care of everything if there is a problem.

Alfa also has its own technical service to which you could send the machine during the warranty period, but as I say, Amazon takes care of all these procedures. I hope I have helped you decide.

            Anything you tell me.

  14. Hello, I am in doubt between the alfa practik 9 and the alfa 474. The difference in price is about 100 euros but I wanted to know your opinion as to whether it is worth paying the difference or which one you would choose. Thanks a lot!

    Reply
    • Hello, Martha,

The Alfa 474 is one of the company's latest models but we like the Pratik 9 a lot as it is a very balanced model that even beats the Alfa 474 in some aspects (it has 34 stitches compared to 23 on the Alfa 474 ). Both Alfa sewing machines have the same power (70W).

The variable stitch length also offers a greater range on the Practik 9. It is only in the number of rows of feed and the width of the stitch that the Alfa 474 has some advantage.

We do not know what the use that you are going to give the machine will be, but if it is domestic and for crafts, the Practik 9 fulfills more than enough and is also on sale for about 200 euros.

For that price there is nothing that justifies the purchase of the Alfa 474.

      Regards!

Metallic, without plastic parts such as the bobbin case, etc… that has an elastic stitch, and that can handle thick fabrics, jeans, towels, sew zippers…. I have seen Alfa style up 40. Alfa next 45 and alfa next 40 spring. Which one would you recommend? Thank you very much!!!!

    • Hi Lorena,

Of the three models you mention, the Style Up 40 adapts perfectly to what you are looking for. You will not have problems with plastic materials or sewing thick or hard fabrics such as jeans.

Also, the good thing about this machine is that it can be found at a very good price.

The Alfa Next 45 seems to have been discontinued (it does not appear on the manufacturer's website) and the Alfa Next 40 spring is a recent model but with similar characteristics to the Style Up 40 but paying a little more.

We hope we have been able to help you.

We are finally going to change it.
Can you give me some recommendation?

What budget do you have? I guess you'll want another Alpha seeing how long your current sewing machine has lasted.

Take a look at the ones we have on the web and if none of them fit you, tell us what you are looking for and what you want to spend to find the model that best suits what you are looking for.

    • Hi, Tony,

My name is Nacho and I am writing to you regarding your question about which sewing machine to choose: the Style 40 or the Next 830.

Both machines are practically identical: they have the same power, variable stitch length and width, 6 rows of feed dogs, etc.

The only palpable difference is in favor of the Style 40, which has 31 stitch designs compared to the 21 offered by the Next 830. Due to the little price difference between the two, we recommend the Style 40, which is also on sale.

I am writing to you for the message you have left us on our sewing machine website.

Among the two models you have mentioned, the most complete is the Zart 01 without a doubt. Much more modern but also quite a bit more expensive than the Singer Curvy model you want.

Although both are very complete electronic machines, they do not compete in the same league since the Zart 01 is the clear winner, at a much higher price.

    • Hello Ana Maria,

The Alfa 2190 model is one of the most complete that you can buy today, it could practically be considered as a professional model.

The differences with respect to the 2160 are quite a few. In favor of the Alfa 2190 you have twice the number of stitches (120 vs. 60), 2 alphabets, a variable zig zag width in a larger range, etc.

Both are good machines, but the difference of almost €200 in price is noticeable at the level of features.

  21. Good morning,
I'm thinking of buying the Alfa 2190, but I'm still wondering if it can overlock by cutting the fabric at the same time or not. In some data sheets I understand that yes, in others that it depends on the presser foot,… I also think, above all, of its use in knitted fabrics (t-shirt type). For the rest, I understand that this machine would be great for me to replace my Alfa Inizia from a few years ago and that it would help me with all kinds of fabrics (including jeans, upholstery...). What is your opinion? any other comparable to this? (Even from other brands…).
    Thank you!!
    Elise.

    • Hello Elisa,

In reference to your doubt, the Alfa 2190 machine is one of the most complete on the market, it is closer to the professional sector than to the domestic one, so you can do everything you tell us with it.

What it does not have is the fabric cutter that you mention, at least we do not see that function in the model's instruction manual. It does have an automatic thread trimmer but nothing more.

I don't know if this is a handicap for you. maybe you need one overlocker that all usually include the fabric cutter.

I am hesitating between the Alfa Smart+ and the Alfa Zart01, which one do you recommend?

    • Hello Maria Jose,

Both machines will meet your needs, although for your needs, the Alfa Zart 01 has a greater number of stitches and symbols of the alphabet, so it fits better to make your names and more complex jobs. It is also slightly cheaper.

The Alfa Smart Plus is technologically more advanced (although its features are lower if we talk about sewing exclusively) but it has a USB port, a color screen to show the step by step of the crafts, etc.

  25. Hello Nacho, good morning.
I am thinking of buying a sewing machine.
Discarded the Singer brand, I lean towards the Alfa 2190 and the Alfa Smart Plus. There is a price difference, but in practice I don't know what the differences or advantages are that incline me towards one model or another.
Basically I want it for patchwork, but at the same time I want it to be versatile, that is, to be able to do (simple) things.
I saw a tutorial on the Smart Plus and, frankly, it's a revolution, but I didn't see any video on the Alfa 2190, so I don't know if it's easy to use.
I don't have much idea of machine sewing, in fact I'm going to learn.
    Can you advise me?
    Thank you very much.

    • Hello Angels,

The two models are undoubtedly the top of Alfa so the differences are subtle but important.

For example, the Alfa 2190 has 20 more stitches than the Smart Plus.

Another important difference is in the display and handling. The Smart Plus is more intuitive thanks to its large touch screen from which you can upload crafts via USB and follow the step-by-step directly from there, that's something you can't do with the Alfa 2190, for example.

In the rest they are quite similar although the 2190 model is more professional. Choosing one or the other depends on whether you prefer ease of use and cutting-edge technology compared to more traditional but more professional machines as well. They are both good machines.

  27. Hi very good!
I'm thinking of giving a sewing machine to my girlfriend, I'll explain a little to see if you can advise me.
Right now she is making some of her own products for her store, and she gives it a lot of energy, I mean hours and hours sewing nonstop.
Some of these products have 4 layers or more of fabric, so it also has to be tough.
Until now he was with a next 30, but it has broken down, we still don't know what happened to him, but I want to give him a new one.
    What do you advise me?
Because as much as I look I don't see the difference in terms of the style, next, praktic, etc. models.
The number of stitches would not matter because in the end he always does the usual 2 or 3, so I imagine that this is not a determining point.
The Next 30 spring is now on sale at Amazon at 110, but since it's like the one I had, it scares me and I don't know if a higher one would be better.
I could pay more, 200 or 250 if necessary and it's really worth it.

    Thank you

If you want to buy something better than what you had, the Practik 9 is a model that is very popular right now and falls within your budget. You can buy it on sale here.

I have looked on the web and got quite confused (there are many models). I have liked the Alfa practik 7, the Alfa 40 style and the singer heavy duty 4423. Of the three models you mention, the Alfa Pratik 7 adapts to what you are looking for. You will not have problems with plastic materials or sewing thick or hard fabrics such as jeans.

Of course, if you want to play it safe, the Singer Heavy Duty 4423 has a 90W motor compared to the 70W of the Alfa models, so it has more force to go through harder fabrics such as denim.

For the little difference in price, it may be worth buying the Singer Heavy Duty.

It is a machine with a great value for money and that will give you a great service like the Next 20. It does not have a wide variety of stitches (only 12) but if that is not important to you, it is a great option that can with everything.

As for the cover, the one you mention is compatible with all Alfa sewing machines from the Next and Compakt series, so you won't have any problems.

I am writing to you about the message you left us asking about the Alfa Zart01 and Alfa 2190 sewing machines.

Both are almost professional sewing machines but with different purposes. The Zart 01 has many more stitches while the Alfa 2190 is more focused on Patchwork, hence its work surface is larger and it has an extension table included.

What is certain is that now you can get the Zart01 at a much cheaper price than the official one, so the balance is more inclined towards this model.

  31. Hello! I dedicate myself to making alterations and tailoring, so I give a lot of love to the machine since it is my work tool. I have an industrial machine in my house that passes me the strongest fabrics and in my store I had an Alfa Zig Zag from before, but it just broke and I need to replace that machine to have one in the store to work there, no I want an electronic one and I don't need it to have many types of stitches since in the end I only use the most basic ones but I do need it to have some strength since I do have to sew moderately strong fabrics (such as thick jeans, leatherette, corduroy, coats... ) I already have to take my work home to sew it in the factory. I've been taking a look at the models and I've gotten a bit confused because I see them almost identical, especially the next spring and style models, I don't know whether to take the 20 or the 30 (style or spring??) or the Next 840. Which one do you recommend? ? I had also looked at the singer heavy duty 4411 but in terms of features it is very similar to the alphas plus a cubic alpha for price. Might you help me? Thanks

    • Hi Isabel,

I understand your doubt since all the models you mention are practically the same.

Seeing your needs, I would bet on the cheapest model of all the ones you have mentioned. All of them can sew thick fabrics such as jeans without a problem and if having more or less stitches is not something that matters too much to you, it is better to bet on the model with the best value for money since they all have the same power.

In this case, the Alfa Style 20 is the most economical.

      I hope I've been helpful.

The Alfa Practik 9 and the Heavy Duty are very similar models, their differences are minimal except for a few more stitches in the case of the Alfa or some minor feature in favor of the Singer.

What there is is a big difference in price between both models, the Alfa Pratik 9 being 50 euros cheaper, so in terms of value for money we opted for that model.

The only one that I could recommend in this line is the Alfa Smart Plus, it has fewer stitch designs but it has a screen from which to follow step-by-step tutorials in great detail.

If for you the touch screen is not going to be excessively useful, buy the Zart 01 without a doubt.

    • Hi Ana,

I am writing to you in relation to the message you have left us on our sewing machine website.

Between the Alfa Pratik 9 and the Alfa 474 there is almost 100 euros of difference according to the official prices of the brand.

In this aspect, the Practik 9 has more stitches but in the rest of the aspects the Alfa 474 is more complete (more rows of feed teeth, more customizable stitches, etc). If that price difference isn't an issue for you, the Alfa 474 is a clear winner.

If, on the other hand, you prefer to save those €100, you can buy the Alfa Pratik 9 on sale and still get a very capable sewing machine with a wide range of possibilities.

In the end it depends a bit on your needs, perhaps the Practik 9 is more than enough for the uses you are going to give it, but since you have not specified us, we cannot be more specific.

  35. Hi, I've had an Alfa Zart 01 sewing machine for four months, I've been using it for about a month, I'm having problems with the stretcher notice.
When the bobbin has little thread left, the sewing machine warns you and stops.
Once the bobbin is filled it keeps warning me and it won't let me sew, it keeps giving that warning even when the bobbin is on, I checked that it's fine, that there's no lint, I've tried turning off the machine and nothing.
In the instructions there is nothing related to that problem, so it pisses me off.
I don't know if you have had any experience similar to mine or if you can help me in any way.

As the Zart 01 is a fairly advanced machine, it is best that you call the Alfa technical service, tell them the error code that the machine gives you and they can surely advise you much better. If you go to their website, surely they also have a contact form in case you want to save the call.

In case they don't solve it for you, since the Alfa sewing machine is only 4 months old, you can always make use of the guarantee and have it repaired.

  36. Hi, Nacho, I have to buy a sewing machine. I'm used to an alpha but it's very old and it's already dead...I sew a lot of clothes for my children and the ones that bother me the most is the thread tension in the shuttle, so I'd be thinking about an alfa compact 500 or alfa 474 because of the issue of the vertical launcher, they say that it is not necessary to regulate the tension, is this true? And between mechanical and electronic which is better?

    • Hi Lydya,

From what I have seen on the manufacturer's website, the Alfa 474 also has a horizontal shuttle so, in principle, it is not as you say.

As for whether to choose between an electronic or a mechanical sewing machine, the electronic ones are usually of higher quality, more precise, work in less time and offer a greater number of stitches. They are also more expensive, but among the models that you have proposed to us, we would bet on the Alfa Compakt since the price difference between the two is not very great.

I also believe that the Alfa 4760 is a discontinued model, the manufacturer no longer offers it in its list of models, so in terms of spare parts or warranty, it could give you problems buying a model that has already disappeared.
